Charitable status confirmed for Culture and Sport Glasgow

Creation of charitable company moves a step forward

Glasgow City Council’s move towards the creation of a charitable company - Culture and Sport Glasgow - to deliver culture and sport services to the city took another step forward today with the announcement that the company has received confirmation of charitable status.

This confirmation came from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and means that Culture and Sport Glasgow has now been entered on the Scottish Charity Register.  The new company will be established on 1 April and fully operational by 31 May.

Councillor Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “I am delighted the new company has been granted charitable status by OSCR.  This is another step towards the creation of the company that will take culture and sport in the city to even higher levels.  Culture and Sport Glasgow will be able to attract investment in ways that the Council cannot, and so improve and extend these services to the people of Glasgow, who will retain ownership of the city’s cultural and sporting assets.”
