COMMUNITY TOURING

Maria of my Soul

Culture and Sport Glasgow, Arts Development, has recently expanded the team to include six new arts officers. Five of these officers are based locally within the Community Health Care Partnerships areas of the city.

With this expansion the team are currently working towards re-developing a robust, community touring circuit within Glasgow. There is the potential to support tours of productions/events of all art forms including theatre, dance, visual arts, music, multi-arts and literature.

Past shows that Arts Development have supported include:

Johnny McKnight's CINDERELLA by Platform
Children's Classic Concerts - SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL
Schools tour of BLACK OUT by Citizens Young Company
Schools tour by Glasgow International Jazz Festival
MOLLY WHUPPIE in association with Lickety Spit and Platform

MARIA OF MY SOUL

Maria of my Soul

MARIA OF MY SOUL is a tender new short drama with live piano which charts the life of DORIS, a 73 year old woman whose life has been reduced to one room in a nursing home.  Angry and vulnerable, DORIS rages at her young male carer KAMIL recently arrived from Turkey.  Added to DORIS` daily routine is the live community sing-a-long that single dad BOBBY STARLITE inflicts on the residents.  Despairing at the cheeriness of Perry Como`s `Magic Moments` DORIS remembers her one `magic moment` - a night in 1956 in Glasgow`s fabled Plaza Ballroom which changed her life forever.

As part of the Arts Development Department’s ongoing mission to revitalise the community touring network in Glasgow we have commissioned Clyde Unity Theatre Company to restage this work, after its original premiere at Oran Mor, and perform it across Glasgow in venues easily accessible to audiences.
