You can access many online resources available in Glasgow’s Libraries from a home or work PC if you’re a library member. If you’re not a member, then you can register at any Glasgow library. Subscription-based resources available free to library members at home can be identified by the link from home hyperlink under the resource description.


Click on the link and then enter the first 10 characters of your library card number into the login box to gain access.


All of the following electronic resources can also be used on library PCs. Free Internet access is available throughout the library network.

Online indexing and abstracting service which covers resources in science and technology and the humanities. ANTE (Abstracts in New Technology and Engineering) is indexed from 1981 onwards and BHI (British Humanities Index) from 1962 to date and includes UK quality newspapers.

Formerly xreferplus, contains over 3 million entries from a selection of well-known reference works. It includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, conversion tables and books of quotations. Not to mention a range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy and literature to law. Plus video clips, animations, interactive maps and timelines.

Britannica Junior

 

For ages 5-11 Britannica Junior Encyclopedia has been created especially for readers at the primary school level. Thousands of shorter articles cover subjects for school and fun, from nations of the world to animals and sports.

Britannica Student

 

Britannica Student for ages 12-18 makes the authoritative content of our encyclopedia lively and easy to read. You can use the Workspace feature to create a customized page for a research project. Store Britannica articles in the Workspace and retrieve or clear them at any time.

THE place to find information about company products and services.  World-wide database covering 2.3 million companies in 70 countries.

Keyword-searchable, online database of 67 of the most popular national and regional British newspaper and magazine titles. It is updated every weekday, with most articles being added to the service the day after publication. Newspaper supplements are included, but not pictures, graphics, cartoons or adverts. Date coverage varies from title to title.
