The Mitchell Redesigned for the 21st Century       Work on the development work at Granville Street is now complete. By removing interior walls, The Mitchell Theatre, Moir Hall and The Library have been integrated into an exciting public facility. This major development aims to improve customer facilities, access to the collections and service delivery.
Floor to ceiling windows have been installed at Kent Road to open up the building and create an interior 'streetscape'. The various elements of the 'new' and 'old' Mitchell are now linked via the two main entrances at North Street and Granville Street.
	The contemporary reception area at Granville Street includes: public access to 50 PCs The Herald café/bar Business Information section Leisure and Lifestyle - where you can borrow books, CDs and DVDs upgraded conference facilities
In future phases of the development, we also aim to develop an innovative and inspirational visitor attraction based on the 'treasures' held by The Mitchell. The story of Glasgow and its people will be told through our world-renowned collections making full use of new technology and innovative design.
One of the largest reference libraries in Europe, The Mitchell's many collections and up-to-the-minute electronic information make it a unique resource located in the centre of Glasgow.
The stunning Main Reading Hall of the Library is now a major venue for large-scale exhibitions and private events.  This unique space retains the amazing internal architecture and original library furnishings.                                        The new Mitchell provides a state-of-the-art resource for the people of Glasgow and a major cultural tourist attraction destination for visitors to the city.
