Maria's Story
My main motivation for joining was to get back in shape after having our baby boy! I returned to the Glasgow Club when my son was around 12 weeks old, and the main area I wanted to work on straight away was my belly.
Gentle abdominal toning was my main focus in the gym with some gentle running too. I knew I couldn’t get back in shape overnight, but needed to stay motivated and focused on what I wanted.
I was so pleased with the help and advice I received (and continue to receive) from the gym staff and fitness instructors, especially the advice I received on my diet, as this was just as important. As well as regular visits to the gym, I discovered Body Pump classes - the combination of the music and the workout it gave me was just what I needed.
I felt great when I started to see the results and this inspired me even more to keep going. I am now fitter than I have ever been and feel the benefits every day!

Ron's Story
My main motivation for joining was, like many folk, to get fitter and lose a little weight. I was also keen to start running again and used this as the focus for my workouts. The gym staff were great - giving me a programme tailored to help me meet my goal and through time, this gave me the confidence to take up my son’s challenge of running the Great Scottish Run.
To be honest it was a daunting thought, it had been some time since I’d run any kind of distance. But I’d gained a lot from my training and was confident I could run 13 miles, well at least - I hoped I could by the time race day came!
My training was going so well and my competitive nature took over. The challenge of beating my son was an extra incentive for me, which provided the ultimate motivation for my training.
I was proud as punch crossing the finish line in 2 hours 8 minutes! The sense of achievement was overwhelming and a feeling that I will always remember. The fact my son was waiting to congratulate me in the finish area didn’t spoil my day. The fact he was worried I’d beat him made my day! The Great Scottish Run was a fantastic event and the Glasgow Club gave me everything I needed to achieve it.

Harminder's Story
My reasons for joining are probably like thousands of other people’s – I was feeling tired, run down and knew I needed to get fitter. I went through a phase of thinking I didn’t have the energy to exercise, that it would be too time-consuming, and that it would cost too much but finally decided to put these things to the test and have never looked back.
Thanks to the Glasgow Club, I quickly realised that exercising actually gives you energy! The cost compared to other health and fitness clubs was superb and I found the key to getting my results was to set out a routine for going to the gym and classes – making time for it so it fit round my other commitments.
I now constantly feel rejuvenated after my workouts and thoroughly enjoy it! The social aspect is a great bonus, I found many other people have the same routine as I do and this helped me make some friends too.
I would strongly recommend to anyone who thinks they want to do it, but is holding back because of the same excuses I gave myself - just do it. You won’t regret it!

Robert's Story
I used to drive from work to the office, sit at a desk all day before driving home and spend most evenings in front of the TV. The furthest I travelled under my own steam was from my desk to the water cooler!
Even though I wasn’t doing too much, I felt exhausted all the time and it was my partner who first noticed that I was putting on weight. I was visiting my GP to get vaccinations for a holiday and we discussed the fact I was always feeling sluggish. He suggested I try getting some exercise and I came back from abroad having reluctantly decided to give it a go.
I visited Tollcross and the gym staff suggested I try and come regularly with a friend so we could help to motivate each other. I convinced my brother to join with me and we both had a programme made up to help us start getting fitter.
The great thing is that my membership lets me use any of the centres so I can visit the Gorbals Leisure Centre, which is close to the office, at lunchtime. I’m now nearly a stone lighter and seem to have bags of energy! I’ve even cycled to work a few times.

Catherine's Story
My main motivation for joining was to lose weight, but I did have extra motivation knowing it would vastly improve my chances of becoming a Mum!
Around 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with ME and this condition forced me into quitting my job as a nurse. I began to put on weight due to a poor diet and lack of exercise, and reached 26.5 stone.
I have always wanted children but was experiencing difficulties conceiving, and was advised to set myself a goal to lose some weight as this would improve my chances of receiving fertility treatment.
After 20 months and losing 12 stone, I found out I had naturally conceived – I was over the moon! I was in no doubt that the exercise and healthy eating was a major factor, as was my husband of course!!
The Glasgow Club provided me with facilities and advice to turn my life around and the combination of classes, which I thoroughly enjoyed and which helped me achieve these results were mainly Body Pump, Body Combat and Spinfit.
After conceiving our baby son, I continued to exercise and I have reached a satisfying 12 stone 8 pounds. At present I am seeking the advice of the qualified gym instructors at Scotstoun Leisure Centre and hope to lose another 2 stone.
I hope my story can give others the confidence to take that first step to turning their lives around.

Camay's Story
My story might not be too inspiring, but I’m sure a lot of folk can relate to it.
I work in an office based job and the work is very sedentary. I drive to and from work and knew that I wasn't getting any exercise. This started to make me feel sluggish and I always seemed to be lacking energy. I was also fearful about gaining weight as many women are!
I decided action was required! The Glasgow Club seemed like the best option for me, there are centres beside my work and home and the membership prices are great value.
I wanted to tone my arms, legs and stomach and also use fitness as a way to relieve the stress of working. I have been attending most of the BTS fitness classes and I find Body Pump has toned my body overall, Body Combat is a fab way to get the frustration of work out of my system and I get a great work out at Body Step and Body Attack classes.
Going along to classes at lunchtime also breaks up my day. Usually after lunch I always felt sluggish and though you might think it would wear you out, a lunchtime class gives me a burst of energy to keep me going for the rest of the day and keeps my concentration levels up. I also believe I get a better and more restful night’s sleep after exercise and have made so many new friends at classes too.

John's Story
Just over 6 years ago I was told by my doctor that I was suffering from stress due to the hours I was putting in at work and he advised I must do something to combat this or I would have serious health problems ahead. I also felt out of condition for my age. I had put on weight and was always feeling tired and stiff with pains in my back. So I finally decided I had to do something about it.
I went along to my local Glasgow Club centre and spoke to one of the instructors in the fitness suite. He told me that they could work with me to design a programme, which would increase my fitness levels at a pace that was suitable for my age and situation.
When I joined I was given a fitness test to ascertain my level of fitness and a programme was then designed to suit my needs. When I first went along I was a bit apprehensive but I was soon put at ease, not only by the instructor but also by how friendly everyone was - especially when you realise that most people are going to the gym and to classes for the same reasons as you.
Soon, with the help of the instructor I was improving more than I ever dreamed I could and I was soon confident enough to move on to fitness classes!
The Glasgow Club has given me a new lease of life, confidence, and a new group of friends and hopefully has increased my life expectancy. This was why I decided to join the Glasgow Club and hope anyone else who can relate to my story will enjoy using the club in the same way I have!
