Springburn's 'Top Gear' Challenge

September's gym challenge at Springburn

The gym staff team at Springburn love organising a challenge for anyone who uses the gym. In September,  they launched the 'Top Gear' challenge. Anyone who wanted to have a go at trying to set a 'personal best' or 'take on the rest' was welcome!

Competitors' times were recorded as they each put in their best effort at cycling 10 kilometres on a stationary bike. Although only ten people took part, most challengers made three or four attempts to try and improve their time. The men’s event was particularly competitive and close run with only a few seconds separating the top four times.

Eddie McDermott was the overall winner of the men's event, recording a winning time of eight minutes and ten seconds. The winner of the women's event was regular challenge participant Julie McPhater who finished with an impressive time of 9 minutes 10 seconds.

If you haven't tried a gym challenge before, why not give it a go? You don't need to be fantastically fit or particularly competitive. Most challenges are geared to all ability levels and are just as effective at getting you to push yourself to improve on your own abilities. Ask the gym team at Springburn about the festive challenge they're planning for this year?
