The National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome
The Work Starts Here
This page outlines the proposals for the development and is part of the Pre-Planning Application Consultation, the purpose of which is to engage communities in planning the future of their community.
The arena and velodrome will be built on a brown field site opposite Celtic Park in Parkhead and will kick start the regeneration of the East End of Glasgow.
The National Indoor Sports Arena aims to provide world-class facilities for international, national, regional and local events and a community sports centre.
The arena and Scotland’s first indoor velodrome will be the major indoor sports venues for Scotland, capable of staging Commonwealth, European and World sports and cycling events in a quality environment.
The facility will also provide a major stimulus for sports participation and well being in the East End of Glasgow. The facilities on offer in the community sports centre include:
- A Dance Studio
- Sports Hall
- Gym
- Spa
- Creche
- Children’s Health Club
- Track Cycling
- Indoor Roller Sports Park (In Line Skating, State Boarding, BMX)
- Café restaurant
Outdoors there will be:
- Four 5-a-side pitches
- An off-road 1km cycle track
- Multipurpose street sports area
The project will be pivotal in Glasgow’s and Scotland’s plans for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in providing the competition venues for track cycling and badminton.
The development of the National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome will make a contribution to Glasgow’s economic and social objectives. Specifically, it will provide training and apprenticeship opportunities in construction skills and leisure centre operations.
In addition it will provide opportunities for Scottish businesses to undertake construction related work and become suppliers of products or services to the venue.
It is your venue – have your say. The development of the National indoor Sports arena and Velodrome has been planned for the local community, for Glasgow and for Scotland. The consultation is being carried out to inform you as a local resident, and to give you the opportunity to comment on the proposals.
