Newspapers in the Mitchell

Want to keep up with what's happening today, check out an event from last week or even 100 years ago?

The Mitchell's collections of newspapers cover the current broadsheet press for the United Kingdom, Glasgow newspapers of all periods, some Scottish regional newspapers and a selection of Asian language papers.

You can read today's news, browse older newspapers and make or order copies of newspaper articles.

Copying Services

The newspaper collection is made available in microform, in loose copy and in bound volume. You can use self-service coin operated copiers for photocopying from microfilmed and loose copy newspapers, subject to copyright restrictions.

Copying from newspapers in bound volume format is undertaken by the Mitchell’s Photographic service.

Copyright

Where an item is still in copyright (within seventy years of publication or within seventy years of the death of the copyright holder) only a single copy of one page or one article may be made from one issue of a newspaper for the purposes of private study or non-commercial research.

Copies required for purposes other than private study or non-commercial research, to be made either through self service by the library customer or by a member of staff on behalf of a customer, will require to be authorised through the Copyright Licensing Agency's sticker scheme.

Similarly, if more than a single copy of one page or article from an issue is wanted, authorisation is required.

This online resource lists details of Scottish newspapers tiles that have been indexed. It includes:

• type of index
• dates covered
• holding locations

Printed, electronic and online indexes are all included and you can search by newspaper title and keyword. You can also browse all titles or by area.
